If your kitchen units are sound but the worktop is chipped, stained or simply dated, replacing just the surface is often the fastest way to change how the whole room looks and feels. Premium Kitchens of Doncaster supplies and fits granite, quartz, solid surface and laminate worktops, and can also source marble, Dekton, Corian, Minerva and porcelain for households wanting something less common. Every job starts with a free, no-obligation design visit with CAD visuals of how the finished surface will look, followed by a written quotation, so you know the material and the cost before any old worktop comes out.

Whether you're replacing a single run in a galley kitchen or fitting an island in a full renovation, the same laser templating and qualified fitting team handle the job from measure to finish, with the cutting, sealing and old worktop disposal all included in the price agreed up front.

Worktop Supply and Fit: What's Included and What Isn't

  • Free home visit, laser measurement and digital templating

Not Included / Costed Separately

Granite, Quartz, Solid Surface or Laminate: How the Materials Compare

Material Typical Fitted Price Heat Resistance Upkeep Expected Lifespan
Laminate £300-£600 Low - use a trivet, avoid hot pans Wipe clean, avoid abrasive cleaners 10-15 years
Solid surface £800-£1,500 Moderate Low maintenance, surface can be repaired or re-sanded 15-20 years
Granite £1,200-£2,500 Very high, up to 350°C Reseal every 5-10 years 20-30+ years
Quartz £1,500-£3,000 High, but avoid direct extreme heat Virtually maintenance-free 25-30+ years

Templating Accuracy and Stone-Handling Experience, Not a Tape Measure and Hope

A worktop only looks right if the template is right first. Walls that are a few millimetres out of square, a sink with an odd overhang, or an appliance housing that sits slightly proud of the cabinet front all show up if a job is cut from a tape measure and a guess - and unlike laminate, a granite or quartz worktop generally can't be trimmed on site afterwards to fix it. Every kitchen is laser-templated before a slab is cut, so sink, hob and appliance cutouts, upstand returns and any scribing against an uneven wall are marked and cut to the room as it actually is, not as it should be on paper.

Stone brings handling problems that a laminate-only fitter doesn't deal with day to day. Full-length granite and quartz slabs are heavy and can chip or crack at a corner if they're carried or set down wrong, joints need lining up so the pattern or veining reads as one continuous run rather than two mismatched halves, and each material behaves differently once it's in place - quartz needs almost no ongoing care, granite benefits from resealing every few years, and solid surface can be sanded back if it picks up a scratch. Over 20 years of fitting granite, quartz, marble, Dekton, Corian, Minerva, porcelain and laminate across Doncaster and South Yorkshire means the team templating and fitting your worktop has handled that specific material before, not just worktops in general.

More Worktop Installation Questions

Do I need to empty my kitchen before the fitting team arrives?

Clear anything from the worktop itself and from the cupboards directly underneath, since those need to be accessible during cutting and sealing. Unplug small appliances that sit on the worktop, and if you can, disconnect anything plumbed into the sink area the night before - our plumbers can do this on the day if needed, but having it clear speeds the job up. Floors and surrounding units are protected by the fitting team before any cutting starts.

What thickness and edge options do stone worktops come in?

Granite and quartz are usually supplied in 20mm or 30mm thickness, with a choice of square, bullnose or chamfered edge profiles depending on the slab and your kitchen style. Samples of the actual material and edge finish are brought to the free consultation so you can see and handle them rather than judging from a photo or a small swatch.

Can you fit a new worktop around my existing hob?

If the hob is in good condition and staying the same size, we can cut and fit the new worktop around it. A gas hob or range cooker still needs to be disconnected and recommissioned by a Gas Safe registered engineer once the surface is fitted, which is why this is scheduled as part of the same visit rather than left until later. If you're changing to a larger or different hob, tell us at the templating stage so the cutout is sized for the new appliance rather than the old one.

What happens to my old worktop once it comes out?

It's taken away as part of the job under the company's own registered waste carrier licence, so there's nothing for you to store or arrange a skip for yourself. Laminate and timber worktops are broken down for disposal, and stone worktops still in reasonable condition can sometimes be kept back for a garage, shed or utility room surface if you'd rather not see them go to waste - just mention it before removal day.
