This page covers the worktop fitting service itself - the survey, the laser template, the workshop fabrication and the fitting visit - rather than a run-through of every material on the market. Premium Kitchens of Doncaster templates, fabricates and fits worktops in granite, quartz, Dekton, marble, porcelain and solid surface, either as part of a full kitchen refit or as a stand-alone replacement on your existing cabinets. If you already know which material you're after and want to weigh up the options in more depth, the granite worktops, quartz worktops, Minerva worktops and Corian worktop pages go into more detail on each option - this page is about what happens once you've picked one, or if you'd rather have that conversation in person during the survey.

A worktop swap usually means disconnecting and refitting a sink, tap, hob or appliance, so plumbing is carried out by our own NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds trained plumbers, and any gas hob is reconnected and commissioned only by a Gas Safe registered engineer - not by the stonemasons doing the templating and cutting. That matters on a worktop-only job, where a fitter working alone would otherwise have to leave a sink or hob disconnected until someone else could be booked in separately.

What's Covered When We Template, Fabricate and Fit Your Worktop

  • A free home visit to survey your current units, check appliance and sink/tap positions and talk through material options, followed by a written quotation before anything is booked in
  • Laser templating of the exact worktop area once your units are level and appliances are in their final position - accurate to within 1mm, so the slab is cut to fit your kitchen rather than a standard size
  • Fabrication at our own workshop: cutting, edge profiling (square, bevel, bullnose, ogee, waterfall, pencil or Dupont) and polishing, done before the slab ever comes to your house
  • Sink, hob and tap cut-outs and drainage grooves machined to the template for your specific appliances, not measured and cut on the day
  • Matching upstands and splashbacks cut from the same slab or a coordinating material and fitted on the same visit
  • Fitting day itself: the old worktop lifted out, new sections carried in and dry-fitted, then bonded at the joints and caulked to the walls and units
  • Sink, tap and appliance plumbing reconnected by our own qualified plumbers before we leave; gas hobs and range cookers reconnected and commissioned only by a Gas Safe registered engineer
  • Old worktop and offcuts taken away under our own registered waste carrier licence, so there's nothing left for you to skip or dispose of yourself
  • 5-year labour and installation guarantee plus a 2-year product guarantee, confirmed in writing once the job's signed off

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Structural changes to units or cabinets needed to support a new shape, such as converting to an island - quoted separately once seen on site
  • Electrical work such as moving sockets or wiring for new appliances - carried out by our Part P approved electricians but priced as an addition once scoped
  • Retiling or replastering of walls behind a new upstand or splashback if the existing tiling has to come off first
  • Ongoing resealing of natural stone after the initial installation - granite and marble need periodic resealing as normal maintenance, not a one-off job
  • Any problem found in the units, pipework or wiring once the old worktop is lifted - this is priced and agreed with you before we proceed, never assumed into the original quote

How We Measure, Make and Fit Your Worktop

  1. Book a free survey -- We visit your kitchen, check the units, appliances and sink/tap positions, talk through material options and follow up with a written quotation - no charge and no obligation to go ahead.
  2. Confirm the material and edge profile -- Once you've picked a material and edge profile, we order the slab and book in a template date; units need to be fitted and appliances in position before we can template accurately.
  3. Laser template the worktop area -- A surveyor measures the exact space to within 1mm using a laser template, capturing every corner, upstand and cut-out position so the slab is cut to your kitchen rather than a standard size.
  1. Fabricate at our workshop -- The slab is cut, edge-profiled and polished at our own fabrication unit, with sink, hob and tap cut-outs machined from the template before it ever reaches your house.
  2. Fit and reconnect on site -- On fitting day the old worktop comes out, the new sections are dry-fitted, sealed and caulked, and our own plumbers reconnect the sink and taps - a Gas Safe engineer reconnects any gas hob.
  3. Sign-off and guarantee -- We walk through the finished worktop with you before we leave, confirm the 5-year labour and installation guarantee and 2-year product guarantee in writing, and clear away the old worktop and offcuts under our own waste carrier licence.

What a New Worktop Costs in Doncaster

Price depends on the material, the length and shape of the run, the edge profile chosen and any extras like sink cut-outs, drainage grooves or a matching upstand. Laminate sits at the lower end, natural stone such as granite and marble in the middle, and engineered materials like quartz, Dekton and Corian toward the top, reflecting the extra machinery and skill needed to cut and finish them. Because every kitchen's cabinet run, corners and appliance positions are different, we don't quote a price over the phone - the free consultation includes a full survey and a written quotation, and the laser template then confirms the exact cost before fabrication starts. Finance options are available if you'd rather spread the cost.

Worktop Materials Compared

Material Durability & heat resistance Maintenance Best suited to
Granite Very hard natural stone; resists scratches, knives and direct heat Needs resealing every few years to keep its stain resistance Traditional and luxury kitchens wanting a one-of-a-kind natural slab
Quartz Engineered for uniform hardness; resists the oils and acids that can mark granite Non-porous, no sealing needed A consistent colour and pattern across a run of units or an island
Dekton Sintered from silicon carbide and quartz particles; very high scratch and heat resistance Non-porous, effectively maintenance-free Busy kitchens taking heavy day-to-day use
Solid surface (Corian, Minerva) Non-porous acrylic/mineral blend that can be shaped and seamed invisibly Easy to clean; light marks can be sanded out Curved runs, integrated sinks and seamless joins
Laminate Least heat and scratch resistant of the range Wipe clean, no sealing Budget-conscious refreshes or rental properties

One Fitting Team, Not a Chain of Separate Tradesmen

Worktop-only jobs are often where corners get cut, because a fitter working alone has no easy way to safely disconnect and refit a gas hob or move a socket if the new slab changes the layout slightly. At Premium Kitchens of Doncaster the same company that measures and fabricates your worktop also has City & Guilds joiners, NVQ Level 2 plumbers, Part P approved electricians and Gas Safe registered engineers on the books, so if reconnecting an appliance needs a qualified trade it doesn't mean bringing in someone new or waiting on a second set of dates. Old worktops and offcuts are cleared under the company's own registered waste carrier licence rather than left for you to deal with, and the work is backed by a 5-year labour and installation guarantee plus a 2-year product guarantee. The business is a member of the Construction Industry Training Board and the Federation of Small Businesses, and is upfront about warning against the cheapest quoted jobs, having previously been called out to correct worktops left unsealed, unsupported, or fitted around appliances that were never safely reconnected.

Worktop Fitting Across Doncaster and South Yorkshire

Doncaster is the main base for worktop templating and fitting, with the same team also covering Rotherham, where the company is itself registered and based, plus Sheffield, Barnsley and the wider South Yorkshire area. Around Doncaster itself, jobs regularly come from Bessacarr, Sprotbrough, Bawtry and Armthorpe. Because every worktop is cut and polished at the company's own fabrication unit before the fitting team travels out, the distance from Doncaster doesn't affect templating accuracy or fit - the same laser-template and workshop process applies wherever in South Yorkshire the job is.

Kitchen Worktop FAQs for Doncaster Homeowners

Will you remove and dispose of my old worktop?

Yes - the fitting team takes the old worktop away as part of the job and it's disposed of under our own registered waste carrier licence, so you don't need to arrange a skip or collection yourself. If you're keeping the same units and just replacing the worktop, let us know when you book so disposal can be planned into the visit.

Can you reconnect my sink, tap and gas hob when the new worktop goes in?

Yes. Plumbing reconnections - sinks, taps, waste and appliance connections - are carried out by our own NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds trained plumbers, and any gas hob or range cooker is reconnected and commissioned only by a Gas Safe registered engineer, never by the fitting team alone. It's worth checking this with any worktop company, since reconnecting a gas appliance legally has to be done by someone Gas Safe registered.

What guarantee do you offer on a new worktop?

Every installation carries a 5-year labour and installation guarantee, with a further 2-year guarantee on the worktop product itself. Natural stone such as granite and marble will still need occasional resealing over that time to keep its stain resistance - that's normal maintenance rather than a fault, and we'll talk you through how often at the consultation.

How much does a new kitchen worktop cost, and can I spread the payments?

Cost depends on the material, the length and shape of the run and any extras like sink cut-outs or a matching upstand, so we don't quote a figure without seeing the space - the free consultation includes a full survey and a written quotation. Finance options are available if you'd rather spread the cost than pay the full amount upfront.

Do you replace the worktop only, or do I need a full kitchen refit?

A worktop-only replacement on your existing units is one of the most common jobs we do - your cabinets don't need to be new. The main thing to check at survey stage is whether the units are level and sound enough to support the new slab; if not, that's flagged and priced before fabrication starts, not discovered on fitting day.

How long does templating and fitting take from booking to finish?

After the survey and written quotation, we book in a laser template once the material's confirmed; fabrication at our workshop then takes a period of days to weeks depending on the material and how busy the workshop is, before the fitting visit itself is booked in. Fitting a straightforward run is usually a single day, including reconnection.

Can I match my new worktop to an existing splashback or upstand elsewhere in the kitchen?

Where possible we cut upstands and splashbacks from the same slab as the worktop so the colour and pattern match exactly, rather than relying on a separately sourced piece. If you're only replacing part of a run, we'll talk through at survey stage what will and won't match the sections you're keeping.

What if you find a problem with the units or pipework once the old worktop's off?

We stop and talk you through it before doing anything further - this is priced and agreed with you on the spot rather than assumed into the original quote. It happens occasionally with older kitchens where damp or a past leak has affected the carcass underneath.

Book Your Free Survey and Get a Fitting Date

Slab fabrication and edge profiling take time once a template's been taken, so the sooner the survey's booked, the sooner a fitting date can be pencilled in. Get in touch for a free, no-obligation consultation and written quotation - and if your current worktop has a failed seal or joint that's starting to let water into the cabinet below, it's worth getting it looked at before that damage spreads.
