Templating, Fabrication and Fitting: What You're Paying For
- A free home consultation with granite samples and a layout discussion, followed by a detailed site survey
- Templating of your existing worktop area using rigid boards or digital measuring equipment, with 3D digital templating for complex layouts such as L-shapes
- Off-site slab cutting, edge profiling (polished, ogee or bullnose) and cutouts for sinks, hobs and appliances, fabricated on CNC machinery
- Removal of your existing worktops and responsible disposal
- On-site adjustment of cabinet levels where units are out of true, plus support structures fitted under overhangs and breakfast bars
- Full installation, on-site polishing of joints, and initial sealing, with sealer and instructions left with you for future re-sealing
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Replacing or altering the kitchen cabinets themselves - if your units also need replacing that's priced as a separate kitchen refit, not a worktop-only job; see our kitchen fitting page
- Disconnecting and reconnecting gas hobs or range cookers - carried out by our Gas Safe registered engineers and quoted separately from the stone-fitting price
- New plumbing or waste pipework beyond the sink cutout itself, if your existing pipework needs altering - handled by our qualified plumbers as an additional item
- Making good structural problems found on the day, such as damp-damaged or badly out-of-level cabinet carcasses - these need sorting before granite can go down, which can add time and cost
- Re-sealing after the first year - the sealer and instructions we leave with you make this a straightforward job to do yourself every 12-18 months, it isn't an ongoing paid service
Why Granite Prices Vary So Much Job to Job
The price ranges above give you a realistic budget, but every kitchen is different - wall alignment, the number of cutouts, and how many joins are needed all affect the final figure. We only give a firm, itemised price once one of our team has measured your kitchen in person; a quote worked out from photos or a floor plan alone is always a rough guide rather than the number you'd actually be asked to pay.

Granite Compared With Other Worktop Materials
| Material | Sealing needed | Typical cost | Durability | Look and character |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Granite | Every 12-18 months | £200-£600+ per m², depending on grade | 6-7 on the Mohs hardness scale; granite we fitted 20 years ago is still holding up well | Natural stone - every slab has its own unique veining and pattern |
| Quartz | Never needs sealing | Generally costs more than most granite varieties | Hard-wearing engineered stone | Consistent, uniform pattern rather than natural variation |
| Solid surface (e.g. Corian) | Not required | Varies by design | Softer than granite - can be marked by hot pans or sharp knives | Seamless joints, with integrated sinks possible |
| Laminate | Not required | Lowest upfront cost | Typically looks tired within 5-7 years | Printed finish rather than a natural material |
Why the Stone Fitting, Plumbing and Gas Reconnection Come as One Job
Most granite fitters supply and fit the worktop itself and leave you to sort out a plumber for the sink and, if you've got a gas hob, a separate gas engineer on top. Our slabs are cut and profiled off-site on CNC machinery, which is what gives clean, accurate cutouts for sinks and hobs and a tight, consistent edge profile whether you've gone for polished, ogee or bullnose. From there, sink and tap reconnection is carried out by our own NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds trained plumbers, and any gas hob or range cooker is reconnected and commissioned only by our Gas Safe registered engineers, as the law requires - both coordinated as part of the same booking rather than three separate call-outs you have to arrange yourself.

We're CITB and FSB members, your old worktops are cleared away under our own registered waste carrier licence, and every installation carries a 5-year labour and installation guarantee plus a 2-year guarantee on the granite and fittings.
From Our Rotherham Workshop to Your Doncaster Kitchen
Doncaster is our main patch for granite worktop fitting, from the Victorian terraces around Intake and Town Fields to newer estates like Woodfield Plantation and Cantley, plus the surrounding towns of Bawtry, Tickhill, Thorne and Askern. Our team is based at our Rotherham workshop, and the same templating and fitting crew also travel out to Sheffield, Barnsley and North Nottinghamshire for granite installations, so whichever part of South Yorkshire you're in, the people who measure your kitchen are the ones who come back to fit it.

Granite Worktop Questions From Doncaster Homeowners
Do I need to replace my kitchen cabinets to have granite fitted?
Not necessarily - granite can usually be fitted onto your existing cabinets, provided they're sound and reasonably level. As part of the installation we check and adjust cabinet levels before the stone goes down, and fit extra support under any overhangs or breakfast bars. If your cabinets are worn out or you want a different layout, that becomes a separate kitchen refit rather than a worktop-only job.
Who connects my sink, tap or gas hob once the granite is fitted?
Reconnecting a sink and tap is plumbing work, carried out by our NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds trained plumbers rather than the stone fitters. A gas hob or range cooker is fitted and commissioned only by our Gas Safe registered engineers, as the law requires. Both are quoted alongside the granite installation so you know the full cost upfront rather than finding out later.
Should I choose 20mm or 30mm granite?
Standard 20mm granite is what most kitchens use and it's perfectly strong for everyday worktops. 30mm slabs give a heavier, more substantial look and let us create decorative edge profiles like a bullnose or ogee finish, but they cost more and are heavier to handle. We'll talk you through which makes sense once we've seen your layout and budget.
Do you take my old worktops away?
Yes - removing your old worktops and disposing of them responsibly is part of the installation, carried out under our own registered waste carrier licence rather than left for you to sort out.
I like the sound of low maintenance - would quartz suit me better than granite?
It depends what matters more to you. Quartz never needs sealing and gives a completely uniform pattern, while granite needs resealing every 12-18 months but gives you a genuinely one-of-a-kind natural surface that a lot of people prefer for that reason. We fit both, so during your free consultation we'll show you samples of each and give you a straight answer rather than steering you toward whichever costs more - see our quartz worktops page for more detail.
