Not every colour change needs a full repaint done by hand. A good number of the schemes we design end up being applied through our kitchen spraying service, an airless spray finish that gives a smoother, more even result on cabinet doors than a brush and roller, with professional colour matching against Farrow & Ball and Little Greene shades. If you'd rather change the colour without touching the doors with paint at all, kitchen vinyl wrapping is the faster, lower-mess alternative we offer instead.
What's Included When You Book A Colour Consultation
- An in-home visit to assess your kitchen's natural light, layout, worktops, flooring and any fixed elements you're keeping
- Large-format paint samples left with you to view in your own kitchen at different times of day, not just a small chart chip
- Recommendations on cabinet-grade paint, wall paint and ceiling paint suited to kitchen conditions such as grease, steam and daily wear
- Colour matching against a fabric, tile, piece of pottery or existing paintwork you want the scheme to tie into, including matching to Farrow & Ball and Little Greene shades
- The option of airless spray finishing for cabinet doors instead of hand-painting, for a smoother, factory-style result
- The option of vinyl wrapping cabinet doors and worktops instead of painting, for a faster colour change with less mess and disruption
- A written colour and finish specification at the end of the visit, whether we carry out the work ourselves or you use it to brief your own decorator
Not Included / Costed Separately
- Full cabinet replacement or new carcasses -- this is quoted as a kitchen refit, not a colour consultation
- Structural changes such as moving units or removing a wall -- these need a site survey from the wider design and build team
- Gas hob or range cooker work -- only ever carried out and signed off by our Gas Safe registered engineers as part of a full installation
- New sockets, under-cabinet lighting or other electrical changes -- Part P certified work that's priced and scheduled separately
- The cost of actually painting, spraying or wrapping the kitchen -- the consultation gives you the colour plan and specification; carrying it out is quoted once we've seen the space, unless you book both together
What A Colour Consultation And The Repaint Itself Cost
There's no charge for the consultation visit itself -- it's included as part of our free, no-obligation design consultation, which comes with CAD visuals and a written quotation before you agree to anything. What you pay after that depends on how the scheme is actually carried out: hand-painting, airless spraying, or vinyl wrapping are priced differently, and the figure moves with the number of cabinet doors and drawer fronts involved, how much wall and ceiling area needs covering, and whether the existing surfaces need extra preparation first, such as stripping old paint or filling and sanding before priming. A kitchen where the doors were painted with the wrong type of paint and are now chipping needs more preparation, and a higher price, than one that's simply due a colour refresh.

Because every kitchen's size, condition and access is different, we don't quote a fixed rate over the phone -- the price only becomes accurate once one of our team has actually stood in your kitchen and seen what it needs.

Backed By A Full Fitting Team, Not Just A Paint Chart
A colour consultation on its own is a design service, but it sits inside a business set up to carry the work through if you want it to. Premium Kitchens of Doncaster is a member of the Construction Industry Training Board and the Federation of Small Businesses, and every kitchen we work on, whether it's painted, sprayed, wrapped or replaced outright, carries a 5-year guarantee on labour and installation alongside a 2-year guarantee on products. If a colour consultation turns up a bigger job than paint, such as a cracked worktop, an appliance that needs relocating, or a socket in the wrong place, the same project manager who oversaw your consultation can bring in our own City & Guilds joiners, Gas Safe registered engineers or Part P approved electricians, so you're not left finding and vetting separate tradespeople yourself.

Old doors, tins and offcuts are cleared away under our own registered waste carrier licence, and finance options are available if a colour refresh grows into a bigger repaint or refit than you first planned.
Colour Consultations Across Doncaster And Further Into South Yorkshire
Consultations are run out of our Rotherham base and cover Doncaster and its surrounding suburbs first, then extend further into South Yorkshire towns such as Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham itself, and out into Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and East Yorkshire for clients in Nottingham, Derby and Hull who've found us through a previous project or recommendation. Closer to home we regularly visit Bawtry, Tickhill, Askern and Kirk Sandall alongside the Doncaster estates already covered above, and the same in-home visit and large-sample testing process applies wherever you're based -- travel distance doesn't change how thoroughly we test a colour scheme before you commit to it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How Do You Choose Colours for Kitchen Decoration?
Choosing colours for kitchen decoration starts with understanding your space and lifestyle. We begin by asking clients about their daily routines, cooking habits, and entertaining style. A busy family with young children needs different colour considerations than empty nesters who love to host dinner parties. The family might prefer colours that hide fingerprints and food stains, while the entertainers might choose more dramatic colours that create atmosphere.
What Colours Make Kitchens Look Bigger?
Light colours generally make spaces feel larger because they reflect more light. However, the placement and combination of colours matter just as much as the specific shades you choose. In a small kitchen in Bentley, we used several techniques to create the illusion of more space. We painted the cabinets in soft white, used a slightly darker but still light colour on the walls, and painted the ceiling the same colour as the cabinets. This created a seamless flow that made the room feel much larger.
Can You Provide Colour Matching Services?
Yes, we offer comprehensive colour matching services. Sometimes clients have a specific item they want to match - a piece of artwork, a fabric sample, or even a favourite mug. Our colour matching service uses professional equipment to analyse colours and find the closest paint match. We worked with a client in Sprotbrough who wanted to match the blue in her grandmother's vintage teapot. Using our colour matching tools, we found the perfect paint colour and created a beautiful kitchen that honoured her family memories.
What Colour Consultation Services Do You Provide?
Our colour consultation services are comprehensive and tailored to your specific needs. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all solutions because every kitchen and every family is different.
Can You Create Custom Colour Schemes for Kitchens?
Absolutely. Every colour scheme we create is custom-designed for your specific space and needs. We don't use generic colour formulas because we believe every kitchen deserves a unique approach. Custom colour schemes consider everything from your family's lifestyle to your neighbourhood's character. A Victorian terrace in Old Edlington needs different colour considerations than a modern new-build in Lakeside Village.
How Do You Coordinate Paint Colours with Existing Elements?
Coordinating paint colours with existing elements is one of our specialities. Many clients have beautiful worktops, flooring, or appliances they want to keep, and we design colour schemes that make everything work together harmoniously. The key is understanding undertones. Every colour has undertones - the subtle hints of other colours that affect how it appears. A grey might have blue, green, or purple undertones, and these need to work with the undertones in your existing materials.
Do You Provide Colour Samples and Testing?
Yes, colour sampling and testing are essential parts of our service. We never recommend colours without proper testing because paint can look completely different in your actual space compared to a small colour chart. We provide large paint samples - much bigger than the tiny chips you get at paint shops. These samples allow you to see how colours look in different lighting conditions throughout the day.
How Do Kitchen Colours Affect Lighting?
Kitchen colours dramatically affect both natural and artificial lighting. Light colours reflect light and make spaces feel brighter, while dark colours absorb light and can make spaces feel smaller or more intimate. But it's more complex than just light versus dark. The undertones in colours affect how they interact with different types of lighting. Yellow-based colours look warmer under incandescent lighting, while blue-based colours can feel cold under the same lighting.
Why Choose Premium Kitchens for Your Colour Consultation?
Kitchen colour consultation requires both technical knowledge and design expertise. We combine practical painting experience with an understanding of how colour affects mood, space perception, and daily life. Unlike general decorators, we specialise specifically in kitchens. We understand the unique challenges of kitchen environments - from grease and moisture to daily wear and tear. Our colour recommendations consider these practical factors alongside aesthetic preferences. We're local to Doncaster and surrounding areas, which means we understand the architectural styles and lighting conditions common in South Yorkshire homes. A Victorian terrace in Wheatley needs different colour considerations than a modern house in Lakeside Village.
