What A Kitchen Makeover Includes, And Where It Stops

  • Replacement doors and drawer fronts fitted to your existing cabinet carcasses, in shaker, flat-panel or handleless styles
  • New worktops in laminate, granite, quartz or other stone, templated and installed by our own fitters
  • Hardware upgrades - soft-close hinges, new handles, and converting fixed shelves into pull-out drawers
  • Internal storage reconfiguration, such as corner carousels, pull-out pantry units and drawer systems in place of old shelving
  • A new sink and tap, and appliance fronts refitted to match your new doors
  • Splashback replacement in glass or tile
  • Removal of your old doors, worktops and offcuts, taken away under our own registered waste carrier licence rather than left for you to deal with

Not Included / Costed Separately

  • Moving plumbing or electrical points - a makeover keeps everything where it already sits; if you do want a socket or tap relocated, our own Part P electricians and plumbers can do it, but it's priced as an addition
  • Structural work such as knocking through a wall or changing the floor plan - that's a full renovation, not a makeover
  • Gas hob or range cooker installation and commissioning - only ever carried out by our Gas Safe registered engineer and quoted separately when it's part of the job
  • Plastering beyond minor patching around a new splashback
  • New flooring and decorating - available as an add-on but not part of the standard makeover price
  • Replacing working appliances such as the oven or fridge, unless you specifically ask us to include it

Makeover, Respray Or Full Renovation - Which One Actually Fits

Door & Worktop Makeover Spray & Wrap Refresh Full Kitchen Renovation
Typical cost £5,000-£12,000 for most kitchens Priced after a site visit - no new doors or worktops to manufacture, so it's often the cheapest of the three £15,000-£30,000+
Time on site 2-3 days, sometimes 3-4 when worktops are included Usually quicker than a door swap since there's no lead time waiting for made-to-measure doors to arrive 4-8 weeks
What actually changes Doors, drawer fronts, worktops, hardware and internal storage - carcasses stay put The colour or finish of your existing doors, sprayed or wrapped - cabinets and layout stay exactly as they are Units, layout, plumbing, electrics, and often flooring - effectively a new kitchen
Best suited to Sound carcasses where you want a new look plus better storage Doors and units in good condition where only the colour or finish feels dated Layouts that no longer work, or units that are structurally past it

Why We Check Your Carcasses Before We Quote The Doors

The part of a makeover that decides whether it actually goes well isn't the new doors, it's whether the boxes underneath them are still worth keeping. During the free CAD consultation we open every cupboard, check the corners for square, and press on the worktop overhangs and the base boards either side of the sink and washing machine, because those are the spots where forty or fifty years of splashes turn chipboard soft first. New doors fitted to a carcase that's out of square will show gaps and won't close cleanly no matter how good the doors themselves are, so if a box has gone that way we'll say so on the quote rather than fit over it and let it show up as a problem a year later. It's the older ex-colliery terraces around Thorne, Carcroft and Askern where we flag this most, along with the original units still in some of the 1960s-70s semis further out - the same kitchens described in our coverage area below. Where the carcase is sound, our City & Guilds qualified joiners work from its existing dimensions rather than a standard size, which is why appliance housings and integrated fronts still line up once the new doors go on. Any sink, tap or appliance reconnection involved in the job is carried out by our own NVQ Level 2 and City & Guilds trained plumbers, electrical work by a Part P approved electrician, and a gas hob or range cooker only ever by our Gas Safe registered engineer. Because it's our own crew rather than sub-contracted trades, the same 5-year labour and installation guarantee covers the finished job as a whole, not just the doors, and old units and worktops leave the property under our own registered waste carrier licence.

Doncaster Postcodes And The Wider Area We Travel To

Most of our makeover work is within Doncaster itself - from the town centre out through Balby and Wheatley Hills, where terraced and semi-detached kitchens close to the centre tend to be on the smaller side and benefit from the same vertical-storage and internal reconfiguration tricks we've used in Wheatley and Edenthorpe. Kirk Sandall and Warmsworth are mostly postwar semis with more regular-shaped kitchens, while the former colliery towns of Thorne, Carcroft, Dunscroft, Dunsville and Askern often have original 1960s-70s kitchens where a phased makeover - doors and worktops first, storage and lighting later - tends to suit the budget better than trying to do everything at once.

Out towards Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Hatfield, Branton, Auckley, Finningley and Blaxton are a mix of older farmhouses and newer estate housing, and the newer estate at Woodfield Plantation more often asks for handleless or two-tone modern doors than traditional shaker. We're based just up the road in Rotherham, so Sheffield and Barnsley are a normal part of the working week too. For the furthest towns on our books - Leeds, Wakefield, York, Hull, Nottingham and Derby - we're usually quoting for larger supply-and-fit projects rather than a single door-and-worktop swap, so it's worth a quick call to check we're covering your postcode before you book a home visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Does a Kitchen Makeover Cost?

This is probably the first question most people want answered, and honestly, it's difficult to give a precise figure without seeing your specific kitchen. However, we can share some general guidelines based on our experience. A basic door replacement typically starts around £3,000-£4,000 for an average-sized kitchen. This includes new doors, drawer fronts, and handles, professionally fitted. Add new worktops to that, and you're looking at £5,000-£7,000 depending on the material you choose. Include a new sink, tap, and some internal storage upgrades, and most complete makeovers fall between £8,000-£12,000. Compare that to a full kitchen replacement, which typically costs £15,000-£25,000 or more, and you can see why makeovers are so popular. The exact cost depends on several factors: Size of

What's the Difference Between a Kitchen Makeover and Full Renovation?

People often ask us to explain the difference, and it's an important distinction that affects both cost and disruption. A full renovation typically involves: Removing all existing units and appliances Possibly moving plumbing and electrical points Installing completely new kitchen units Often includes flooring and decorating Takes 4-8 weeks to complete Costs £15,000-£30,000+ A kitchen makeover focuses on: Replacing doors, drawer fronts, and worktops Keeping existing unit carcasses and layout Upgrading hardware and accessories Minimal plumbing or electrical work Completed in 2-3 days Costs £5,000-£12,000 typically Both approaches have their place, but makeovers offer excellent value when your existing layout works well and the unit carcasses are in good condition.

Can a Kitchen Makeover Be Done in a Weekend?

This is a common question, and the short answer is: sometimes, but we don't recommend rushing it. For a simple door replacement without worktops, we can sometimes complete the work in two days. However, most makeovers are better spread over 3-4 days to ensure everything is done properly without rushing. When you're investing several thousand pounds in your kitchen, an extra day or two is worth it to guarantee the quality of the finished result.
